You can tell when some splaboos are miserable souls
Well, pardon the happy couple for being happy. Back in September, Nathanael Gay and Robert Brown decided to wed at the Griffin Gate Marriott resort in Lexington (Kentucky). They even had friends, family, and even fellow line brothers (LBs) of Nathanael's fraternity (Kappa Alpha Psi) in attendance.
Meanwhile, I swear some splaboos are always on the beat being assholes towards black LGBTs that found happiness. The trolls at Bossip always on their jobs of being the "typical gossiping yet judgmental homophobes". I have to give Clutch magazine credit for being quite pragmatic and optimistic because these men decided to be open and comfortable about themselves.
Others including Rod McCullom are reporting that the Twitter-verse was going crazy a couple of days ago with idiots making homophobic notions about the happy couple. I swear it seems like some members of folk would rather somebody be bitter and fucked up like them than happy. Ignorance running-a-mok...

Chick-fil-WHO?
That's my response to the above caption of Atlanta-based, Chick-fil-A president, Dan Cathy's comments on marriage equality in the US. He wants to say "NO" then I have to say "uh yeah, I haven't ate at your restaurants in years...". The Monotheistic God/Allah/The Creator/Holy One would be cosigning on your ignorance because it doesn't affect you personally, so why would you are so bothered by marriage equality coming to the forefront?
Also know that the "friends" will be out in full force to shut down your 11 "Dwarf House" locations in Metro Atlanta. ;)
THE END AND THAT IS ALL HE WROTE ABOUT THAT NON-MUTHAFUCKIN' FACTOR!

Oh goodie, New Birth is coming to Birmingham, well sorta...
Well, Refiner's House is going to become "New Birth Birmingham". According to Monday's edition of the Birmingham News, the church housed in the old auto parts building in the Huffman area that was founded in 2001 but located there in 2007 will become affiliated with the embattled New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia in Metro Atlanta.
Oh yeah, New Birth also wants to open a Denver church as well. Ironically, where one of the accusers, Jamal Parris, now resides...
(links courtesy of the Birmingham News)
"We'll no longer be the Refiner's House; we'll be New Birth Birmingham," said Elder Kesia Webb Dailey, a spokesperson for the church. "We'll receive benefits of mentorship, resources, relationships."Also the church's elder Kesia Webb Dailey said,
"That's our bishop and we love him," Dailey said. "We thank God what transpired is over. We're moving ahead."Really Kesia? You don't think the settlement of allegedly $25M with the 4 accusers of sexual coercion of Eddie Long had no effect on your views of him. That is interesting to say the least, but you make your bed so lay in it, my dear.

Just when I thought Eddie Long couldn't get anymore ironic
This deeply-closeted bisexual splaboo is now inviting the male members of the dwindling in enrollment church to "late night prayer meetings". This statement alone is PURE IRONY. Now what are they going to be "praying" about? Something tells me that he is trying to recruit more closet cases and "extra discrete" men in the Metro Atlanta area to partake in "extracurricular activities" in the late night hours...
Oh where is a nice hidden camera when it is needed...

Oh while I was away taking care of business...
I was taking care of some graduate school business, but did have my ear to the blogosphere and the news...
Kudos to Charles Barkley for speaking his mind about Bernice...Bernice King, whom is the current sitting president of the SCLC, for her lack of regard for LGBTs of color yet want to take claim to "carrying the torch" of her father. Speak the truth and shame the demons amongst us...
Auburn University QB soon to be NFL draftee, Cam Newton giving away his education for something as unstable and unpredictable as a career in professional football. Now very wise at all if you ask me, and Dr. Boyce Watkins agrees with me on that. As a matter of fact, Watkins went even further and said that his giving away a paid for education is just further the "plantation mentality" for black Americans. WOW, WOW, WOW! I don't wholeheartedly agree, but he has a some strong points about them taking advantage of these talented individuals.
Then there was the Over-the-Mountain Democrats forum of last Tuesday (January 18th) about "How Will the Democrats Rise Again?" at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. My buddy, Mooncat at Left in Alabama, covered it quite well links here, here, and here. The truth is the Alabama Democratic Party is screwed because white Democrats are too busy trying to "chase after rainbows", i.e. "the elusive rural white vote" while running away from being associated with President Obama (whom isn't popular with a faction of white Alabamians) then the "Joe Reed Problem". The man that is the human equivalent to "a runaway train from hell" while playing up the Bojangles angle. I've covered that thing for awhile now and have nothing else to say about it...
Finally, the incident in Carroll County, Georgia of the Metro Atlanta area. According to the Times-Georgian of Carroll County, 43-year-old Chris Staples was residing at his mother's residence on disability since he had injured himself on the job many years ago, and has been openly homosexual for nearly 20 years. WSB-TV reports that on Sunday, there were two incidents that occurred at the residence, first a rock thrown through a bedroom window with a message from the assailant conveying their knowledge of Staples' sexuality and he was going to hell then a fire set to the residence. One has to wonder who in the hell in 2011 still spins their time worrying about what some low-key individual especially a homosexual does with their life? Nuttiness
I should be back to somewhat regular posting later on this week after getting caught up with other things I'm handling involving my Masters' program...
CORRECTION: According to last Friday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Bernice King turned down the role of president of the SCLC, but that doesn't excuse her track record on LGBT rights...

Twisted irony of this being a topic: "The Princess Boy"
Just last week I was having a conversation with an older black, closeted homosexual guy about this very topic. He said one of the main reasons why he would never live in Atlanta was because of the overt over acceptance of homosexual behaviors and in his words "dudes who dress in female clothing". I responded saying, "I don't worry about what others do because that is their lives and I will live mine as I see fit.". Now this guy is from Chicago originally, where he rear and lived until a couple years ago before relocating with his daughter to Birmingham for a job. It's interesting that he mentioned that he thinks that "guys should exhibit any type of non-conforming behavior" yet he is a homosexual (another non-conforming behavior) and deeply closeted (also a "Praise Team" director at his church in other words he is a "church queen").
I digress, the story about Dyson Kilodavis of Seattle and his non-conforming behavior of dressing in female attire. The 5-year-old black boy likes to dress in dresses and even calls himself "princess boy". He and his mother Cheryl Kilodavis were on the NBC Today show on Monday morning discussing this and a book his mother wrote about similar behavior in children. Cheryl Kilodavis penned her book My Princess Boy in an effort to have these larger conversations about acceptance. The black and mostly black LGBT blogospheres have been talking about this all week. Now I heard about and saw the interview with the Kilodavis' on local NBC station, WVTM, on Monday, but was too tired to say much about it. However, after seeing how the black blogosphere's responses have fallen in other of the 3 catogories: ambivalent, supportive, or against it. (See Bossip, Lipstick Alley, Living Out Loud with Darian, Rod 2.0, Pam's House Blend, Miss Jia) The majority has been against it (no surprise). As Dr. Sheri L. Parks of the University of Maryland, College Park said,
"Religiosity permeates African-American daily life more than any other population," Parks said. "When you look at evangelical Protestants they are the most concerned about gender role development and sexual orientation. African-Americans are very emotionally involved in black masculinity. Masculinity is very highly valued, that's why some people come down hard on this little boy whose not taking his rightful place."It's a damn shame because identity is one thing as an adolescent that is very hard to figure out and discover as it is, but the additional pressures that blacks places on one another for "conforming behaviors" just makes it even harder for young black males and some females when it comes to these things. Hence, why I give folk the side-eye half the time because as a "group" (when need to used for subjective discussion), we talk out of both sides of our necks. We want acceptance as people as whole in Western society, but refuse to accept individual members for their differences especially in they involve not falling in line with socially acceptable behaviors of being hyper-masculinity in males.

Eddie Long attempts to silence his accusers with money
Well, I guess good ol' Eddie Long had decided to "keep it on the hush" rather than "fight it to the very end" as he claimed months ago before his nearly 25,000 congregation in Lithonia (Georgia). Oh hell, oh well. It just displays to me the burden of proof he was fucking with those males and is an ephebophile and one whom has some strong homosexual undertones to their being.

UGH!!! There are too many idiots in this world, but way too many in the Nashville area
The foolishness of the fighting over a Muslim mosque in suburban Nashville has once again reaffirmed idiocy still is prevalent in modern society. The on-going fight over a proposed mosque in Rutherford County, Tennessee, near Murfreesboro, has boiled down to the argument that Islam is attempting to take over the Westernized world to enforce Shariah law. ***EYE ROLL***. The attorney of the opponents of the mosque, Joe Brandon, Jr., has been pedaled ignorance involving this case to the point of absurdity in the Rutherford County Chancery Court. Brandon has used random accusation saying the Rutherford County Planning Commission has predeclared the case prior to the vote on it over the summer to saying that Shariah law promotes pedophilia. According to the Tennessean, even the Rutherford County Attorney, Jim Cope, has said this case has turned into a circus.
All I have to say about this is, "See I told ya that there are still some lunatic white Southerners whom will say ANYTHING to perpetuate fuckery that they feel is justified..." You don't see any black Southerns that damn stupid to take some bullshit like this to court because they know it wouldn't fly. Idiots.

Things about the black religious fold to think about...
Earlier this week, Gallup released a poll on the popularity of allowing openly homosexual or bisexual members of the armed forces to serve as well as the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and same-sex unions. The poll compares from 2008-2009 to 2010. Well, apparently "folk" ain't down with either when compared to other ethnic groups. ***SIGH***
Sometimes I just don't know what to say about why folk are so sanctimonious about LGBT/SGLs when there are plenty of other fires that need to be extinguished. One of the fires is the likelihood of contracting an STI, 1 in 22 black Americans are likely to contracted HIV. There are so many things going on, but folk want to hate on the LGBT/SGLs and them living their lives.
Surprisingly, black LGBT blogger Son of Baldwin wrote a lively list of likely reasoning behind the hypocritical and sanctimonious nature of folk when it comes down to it:

One of the fires is the likelihood of contracting an STI, 1 in 22 black Americans are likely to contracted HIV. There are so many things going on, but folk want to hate on the LGBT/SGLs and them living their lives.
Surprisingly, black LGBT blogger Son of Baldwin wrote a lively list of likely reasoning behind the hypocritical and sanctimonious nature of folk when it comes down to it:
1. Religion. Black Americans (or maybe ALL Americans) are among the most superstitious people on the planet. They have taken what was once their slave masters' religion and used it to liberate themselves from the tyranny of antebellum slavery. However, we've yet to be ingenious enough to remove what is perhaps the inherent flaw in any organized religion: the need for an enemy. Religion simply cannot function without an Other to demonize. Throughout history, women, Pagans, Native Americans and blacks have found themselves the targets of religious terrorism. Gays are simply the latest in a long line of subjects who are held up as scapegoats onto whom all the sins and vices of the society can be poured. What makes black homophobia super egregious, however, is that having been the sacrificial lambs themselves, one would think that blacks would be more sympathetic to gay rights. Instead, like the whites before them who said, "I may be poor, but at least I'm not black," blacks find shelter and solace in "I may be black, but at least I'm not gay."
2. Envy, entitlement, indifference and practicality. On completely self-serving and emotional levels, blacks feel, quite simply, that since we don't yet have all the rights and privileges entitled to us (perhaps on paper, but certainly not in practice), gays shouldn't have theirs yet, either. In other words: Wait your turn! Blacks also feel that the right for gays to marry isn't as important as, say, the right not to be murdered in cold blood by police officers or the right to be able to properly feed and educate one's children or other immediate, tangible concerns. Apparently, everything is mutually exclusive when it comes to civil rights.
3. Racism in the gay community. To most black people, white gays are indistinguishable from the white, often affluent society that they perceive as oppressors. Unfortunately, the gay community has given blacks ample justification for this position. Thus, blacks are adamant about not supporting any cause that will give whites--gay or straight--greater license to oppress them. And gayness, in the minds of ignorant blacks, is most certainly a white thing.
4. Closeted black homosexuals. Since a great many black homosexuals are afraid to come out of the closet because of the rampant homophobia in black society (especially the black church), there are relatively few voices from within the community to combat the rhetoric and relatively few individuals to put a face on the specter. Therefore, the ignorance remains largely unassailable.

A homosexual member of New Birth speaks out...
Well, I have to give it up to Samuel Brown and his partner coming out to admit they is in a homosexual relationship. I don't know how or why he decided to stay in that church for all those years, but more power to you.
After browsing a little bit of his blog, I can understand his logic of trying to make changes from within the institution.
UPDATE: However, I see how Rod McCullom want to make a backhanded insult and his sycophants want to call the man and his partner "church queens". SMH, some things changes and stays the same with them...

The Trifecta of Fuckery: Eddie Long edition
WELL, WELL, WELL, WELL, WELL! THE CHICKENS HAVE COME HOME TO ROOST AND HAS CROWED 3 TIMES!
The messiness, foolishness, and sheer madness of this whole situation has brought me out of my work/career hiatus to post. (I hope to regularly post in general) Hypocrisy, homosexual behavior, and the black religious fold. This is PURE UNADULTERATED FUCKERY AT IT VERY BEST! Now where do I start.
I've been saying for years (pre-bloggging days) that foolishness ALWAYS finds it source. Well, Eddie Long has a history of being involved in anti-LGBT foolishness from helping campaign for Georgia to ban any same-sex unions or domestic partnership in 2004 to his silly ass march in the winter of 2005 in Atlanta against same-sex unions to his rabid homophobic ranting in a good chunk of his "sermons" (if you want to call it that). This man has been the walk body of the stereotype of homophobia in the black religious community. Yet his stupid ass brought himself down over lust for another man, the irony.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 3 plaintiffs (whom names I won't repeat since they are already is there for the world to see on most sites, just Google it) have said basically the same thing, Eddie Long likes to be called "Daddy", took them on lavish trips around the world, introduced them to celebs (or "popular people" in my vernacular), slept in the same bed with him, and sexual acts including masturbation, oral sex were engaged.
Now I'm going to speak on some stuff I allegedly now in vague terms since this is an ongoing case. There are also allegations that Long has been doing this mess since the early 1990s when he first came popular in Atlanta and the black religious circles. Things of such involving such as him taking those boys to the Atlanta Hawks basketball games and etc.
Art Franklin, New Birth's spokesperson is a former Birmingham news anchor has allegations about about him and his sexuality too (especially considering the allegations surrounding his divorce). These are among some of the reasons why he allegedly left WBRC "FOX6" to go to Atlanta to work on his music and writing then later wind up at WBRC's former sister station, WAGA "FOX5" and now at New Birth as the spokesman.
All I'm going to say is this mess is destructive and revealing the bed of hypocrisy involving some black folks especially in the religious and church circles. That's why I've been giving most of them the side-eye for awhile now because it shows that folks need to leave the LGBTs alone like the racially bias need to leave people of color alone...

Hmmm.... More craziness from Virginia...
Well, I see the Commonwealth of Virginia and their newly elected socially-conservative officials in the governor's and attorney general offices obviously have nothing else better to do than worry about "tha gays". First, the governor rescinded the executive order issued by former Democratic governor and current DNC chair Tim Kaine allowing for LGBT/SGL employees to be a protected from termination. Then the Northrop Grumman controversy with Equality Virginia and Maryland tied all into this, and now this ignorance and press-ness of Ken Cuccinelli, who was behind the idea of the rescinding the LGBT protections by Governor Bob McDonnell, now telling all public colleges and university to end their protections extended to LGBT students, faculty, and other employees. WOW, WOW, WOW! Cuccinelli, who is from Fairfax County in the DC Metro, seems to be a little too pressed and worried about about the LGBT/SGLs in VA. Is maybe because he has some lenient homosexual tendencies??? Maybe so because this one white boy doesn't seem to get the memo that we are in 2010 not the 1900's anymore, so going gaga over ''tha gays" usually a psychological cue that you might have some unresolved issues within yourself.
Here's some excerpt from the letter:
"It is my advice that the law and public policy of the Commonwealth of Virginia prohibit a college or university from including 'sexual orientation,' 'gender identity,' 'gender expression,' or like classification as a protected class within its non-discrimination policy absent specific authorization from the General Assembly,"So Cuccinelli, you feel like it is your duty to go out of your way to issue a legal advice on an issue that hasn't come to the forefront? Yeah, you are a queer with some deep-seeded issues that is waiting to boil over sooner than later. Oh well, at least outgoing Alabama Attorney General Troy King will have a successor as the most controversial AG from the South pedestal and might even been vying for "the biggest closet-cased white boy in power award". One thing I have to give to black homophobes most of them either foolish reverends or pastors or ignorant ass hypocrites that cite the Bible for their convenience, but most white homophobes be those closet-cases white guys that are oozing to get out their mental gay hells.
Unfortunately, Virginia progressives will learn that you can't conveniently expect those in the Democrat Party to let them cause inept, bitch-ass candidates to run for statewide offices anymore. You have to vie for candidates that are pragmatic yet progressive or at least moderate to run for statewide offices if you want to prevent a repeat of the idiocy that is now leading your state. That's the problem I have with some fellow progressives, they let liberals and conservatives control the discussion when they should open their mouths and voice some rationale, reasoning, and common sense into the political arena about who you want for a candidate for office. SMH

It's official!
Washington, D.C. is now the first city in the South that allows full-fledged same-sex unionships within its jurisdiction. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case by Fauntroy and the other haters, so the case went back to the District Superior Court, where the justices there also refused. It's a turning of a page for an area that has been plagued with so much controversy surrounding this one issue from the Archdioceses of Washington, D.C. removing its spousal benefits from all employees to the ending of foster care services within the District itself, but leaving it in suburban Montgomery County in Maryland. The trifecta of fuckery with the Northrop Grumman involving Equality Virginia and Maryland officials badmouthing Virginia because of the acts of Governor McDonnell.
Congrats, DC!

In additional DC news...
The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has made another major move to prove they are asses with agendas. First in late February, the Archdiocese's Catholic Charities announced it would end its 80-year-old foster care program offered in the District in response to the passage of the same-sex union ordinance. They did it basically to prevent recognizing LGBT employees who would want extended benefits for their partners.
Also now the Archdiocese of Washington is refusing to honor any spousal benefits whatsoever involving its employees.
The opponents of the District's same-sex unionship ordinance makes a last-minute hail mary to the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene and declare that the ordinance should be upon for a public vote via referendum. Walter E. Fauntroy, a civil rights-era organization of the March on Washington and the District's then-non-voting delegate in Congress, was the one of those who filed papers to the Chief Justice John Roberts to place the ordinance on a ballot before its goes into affect on March 3rd.
THAT'S CUTE, looks like those who are desperate to worry about other's lives are just so pressed and determined like the Archdiocese to make a scene.
Also now the Archdiocese of Washington is refusing to honor any spousal benefits whatsoever involving its employees.
Employees at Catholic Charities were told Monday that the social services organization is changing its health coverage to avoid offering benefits to same-sex partners of its workers -- the latest fallout from a bitter debate between District officials trying to legalize same-sex marriage and the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington.WOW, WOW, WOW! The Archdiocese in DC is determine to make sure they don't have to recognize any form of same-sex unions. It's a mess, but hey it's legal because all employees will lack spousal benefits including the heterosexual ones.
Starting Tuesday, Catholic Charities will not offer benefits to spouses of new employees or to spouses of current employees who are not already enrolled in the plan. A letter describing the change in health benefits was e-mailed to employees Monday, two days before same-sex marriage will become legal in the District."We looked at all the options and implications," said the charity's president, Edward J. Orzechowski. "This allows us to continue providing services, comply with the city's new requirements and remain faithful to the church's teaching."Catholic Charities, which receives $22 million from the city for social service programs, protested in the run-up to the council's December vote to allow same-sex marriage, saying that it might not be able to continue its contracts with the city, including operating homeless shelters and facilitating city-sponsored adoptions. Being forced to recognize same-sex marriage, church officials said, could make it impossible for the church to be a city contractor because Catholic teaching opposes such unions.

Is the Good Bishop still up to no good in DC?
Well, the Good Bishop, Harry Jackson of Prince Georges County, Maryland is STILL trying to repeal the DC same-sex unionship ordinance and the recognition of same-sex unions, civil unions, and domestic partnerships from elsewhere. He tried earlier this week to get the District Circuit Court to overturn the decision of the District Council and District Board of Election and Ethics decision to permit the recognition and ordinance for same-sex unions without a referendum, but got DENIED. Geez Good Bishop, why don't you let it go? You don't even live nor can vote within the District of Columbia, but you are so overly concerned about their affairs when it comes to such trivialized these such as this when PG County's crime rate and other urban issues there are more precedent and tangible to you. Oh well, he has nothing to do but whine, bitch, and moan about the spiraling of DC.

Pat Robertson needs to sit is decripped ass THEN there is Rush Limbaugh AKA Lard Ass
All I can say is WOW! This old clown is needs to stop and just go the fuck home! What's even worse is that my former favorite local and former NBC O&O station, WVTM, which is now owned by god-awful Media General, airs this crap known as the 700 Club locally at noon every weekday. I want to just sucker punch this ignorant idiot, but the Haitian Ambassador to the US did it for me with words on the Rachael Maddow Show.
Lard ass, Rush Limbaugh said yesterday that people shouldn't give money to any of the charities or the federal government to aid the Haitian citizens after the catastrophic earthquake that occurred on Monday.
"I do believe that everything is political to this president," Limbaugh said on his radio show yesterday. "Everything this president sees is a political opportunity, including Haiti, and he will use it to burnish his credentials with minorities in this country and around the world, and to accuse Republicans of having no compassion."SMH This piece of shit should have learned from his heart murmur over the holidays to be a little more mindful of what he says about anybody. How is being compassionate towards your fellow man suppose to be "political"? Honestly, Lard Ass needs just put up his sippy cup of STFU and drink from it...
LET'S ALSO TALK ABOUT THAT SPLABOO HEIFER ON THERE WITH PAT ROBERTSON....
That corn-fed heifer who was nodding her pretty little head alongside with Robertson's incoherent rantings about Haiti is none other than Kristi Watts. She is a Chicago native and divorcee, and here is her testimony about how she got over her divorce.
***sigh*** As much I can empathize with your personal hardships of life, you had an opportunity to stand up as a sane black woman and said 'NO' when Robertson was spouting that ignorance for the world to see and hear. Instead you just nodded your head, and that ma'am shows to me you have no principles at all for people who are down and out, and you would rather swallow your dignity and pride for a paycheck. You are a very pathetic person, Ms. Watts. You needs to find yourself and who you really are because apparently even after this series of events you've yet to find yourself or your own voice. SMH

An opinion that appeared in the Baltimore Sun
In this past Sunday edition of the Baltimore Sun, a teacher in the Baltimore City School district pinned his views of the distrubing behavior occuring with black youths towards the SGL/LGBT members in their ranks. This is in response to the distrubing murder of Jason Mattison, Jr., after his body was found in an abandoned house near his aunt's home, whom he was staying with. The author asked the simple question that I just asked last week: Why are black folks so against black SGL males?
Now, I don't agree with the urban myth that floats around that the heavy turnout of blacks in states like California and Florida are what mainly contributed to the passage of same-sex unionship bans on the ballot in November 2008, but black folks in general homophobic when it comes to black SGL males. Black SGL women have much more acceptance and even fetishized by some black males over the lesbianic sexual contact, but the proof is in the pudding...
As a Baltimore City public school teacher, I hear about one homophobic slur an hour. Usually, this homophobia is reserved for gay men rather than lesbians, who are somewhat more accepted. Even intelligent, educated adults I meet will often surprise me with such prejudice, and this is especially true in the black community.
Usually this prejudice is justified by religious convictions, but slave owners used to go to church on Sundays and quote the Bible too. Gay people have always existed, in every culture and country in history, yet we are told their sexual orientation is unnatural and perverted. What is the threat that these people pose to the rest of us that they must be denied their full rights of citizenship? What disqualifies homosexuals from the principles of equality set forth in the Declaration of Independence as inalienable?
Further, the moral superiority that the intolerant award themselves on this issue offends me even more.
I asked myself the same question everytime I listen to certain black folks that have issues with SGL males when in reality there are so many of them amongst them just either deeply-closeted or creeping. I can only speak for myself, that I am out to friends and a number of members of my family, so I don't have any qualms about my sexuality. However, so many black folks frown upon the being open about yourself in the realm of acceptance or tolerance of SGL males. Then you see the hypermusculine behavior of males even the SGLs to protect themselves from this stigma with whole faux stance of "swag", "homothugs", etc.
You would think that the leaders of the black community, a group that has experienced so much discrimination and prejudice over the course of American history, would be the last to turn around and stigmatize other people, but the opposite is true.
Now, I don't agree with the urban myth that floats around that the heavy turnout of blacks in states like California and Florida are what mainly contributed to the passage of same-sex unionship bans on the ballot in November 2008, but black folks in general homophobic when it comes to black SGL males. Oh Donnie McClurkin
This was posted by Rod Mc on Rod 2.0, but Donnie McClurkin has been cutting up at the last weekend's Church of God in Christ (COGIC) annual conference in Memphis. He was remarking how the young people are lost and stay up all night long like vampires, but the high point of controversy was when he want to make some swipes at gospel singer and pastor, Tonex, who came out over the summer as a SGL (same-gender loving) male. McClurkin also wanted to take some swipes at the gay and bisexual males who are effeminate and flambouyant about themselves along with lesbians as well about how butch they are. Of course, anybody with half-a-brain knows that McClurkin claims to be "ex-gay" and "save" with the temptation to taste the "sugar" like a diabetic, but knows better to resist. (SURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE! YOU DO! *WINK*)
Anyways, Yvette Flunder, orator and founder of the LGBT affirming City of Refuge Church, in DC. She posted this on the church's pastor Kendal Brown Facebook page:
I believe (depending on their individual situation) one can come out in stages and work towards being totally independent of their parents, relatives, or guardians, if they aren't supported by any of them for being out. However, one can only do what is applicable to their situation aside from the "throw the baby out with the bathwater" approach that is universally advocated by some. I'm not saying coming out at all because that is ridiculous, but you have to wise and have a plan on whatever you do when coming out...

Pastor Donnie knows like I know that Tonex’ is more the ‘rule’ than the exception to the rule. What makes Tonex’ unique is not that he is a Gay gospel music artist and Pastor but that he told the truth about his sexuality, while not claiming to be delivered. I believe that these public hateful words directed to the Same Gender Loving community come from the need to instill fear of public ridicule in the hearts of those who may be considering coming out and come from folks who felt they were denied the opportunity to be authentic in their sexuality AND remain successful in the mainline church. I am not worried about Tonex’. He will feel the pain of rejection for a time but he will rise up and answer the prophetic call to be a liberator to his generation. My deep concern is for those young people who are part of the COGIC and for their families who have now been driven deeper into the closet by experiences like this. The closet is a dangerous place, where theological, and physical self-abuse runs rampant. Now, I follow and understand what she is saying because those types of messages Donnie McClurkin and those like him are very dangerous and the cause of a many suicides/suicide-attempts along with self-deprecating behaviors. However, her message isn't universal to all portion of the US especially the South, Midwest, or West. Also most black folks still live in the South, and not in the large cities of NYC, LA, Chicago contrary to popular notions (just check out the US Census site). Outside the large cities, partiuclarly in the South, you are playing Russian Roulette with your well-being since homeless shelters are overflowing these days due to the deep recession. Also they are few to no refuges for SGL/LGBT youths that are kicked out or runaways (especially in Birmingham), so you have to play your hand wisely if you want to not wind up on the streets. There are some resources here in Birmingham, but they are very limited to AIDS Alabama, Central Alabama Pride, and Birmigham MPowerment group. However, from last I checked only AIDS Alabama can provide any real physical resources but most of those are reserved for HIV/AIDS patients. However, the dilemma lays with what choices one makes and how they are executed.
These young people love the church and feel the only place they can go is underground. I am encouraging these young people to find their voices and not run to the shadows to live in fear like my generation has. Watch the signs, change is possible. God is greater than any denomination and bigger than the narrow theologies that seek to hold us hostage. I am excited about our future and I am determined to let folks know that there are safe places to land.

The Catholic Archidoses of DC threatens to pull a "we'll show you" over the same-sex union charter
According to yesterday's Washington Post, the Archidoses of the District of Columbia said they will yank their funding and services from the District's homeless shelters over the passages of the same-sex union ordinance to the DC Charter. Now get this, DC aka Washington is the first city in the South to pass such law, not Atlanta, but DC, LOL. However, after all the splaboos and coons pretending to be members of clergy of the black community in the Maryland suburban counties of Prince Georges' and Montgomery had their whining over the past month about the same-sex unionship ordinance. Yeah, yeah, yeah, anybody that reads this blog knows I don't tolerate coonery of any kind especially from splaboos that need to get their house in order faster than anybody else..
Anyways on to this episode, the ordinance passed the Committee on Public Safety and Judiciary vote of the DC Council on Tuesday in pre-council meetings, and rejected an amendment that would allow an individual to reject providing services based on their religious beliefs. However, on Wednesday, the church decided to swoop down and attack with their ultimatium. They released their attackdog or should I say spokesperson Susan Gibbs to announce:
Now the downside to this foolishness is that some 68,000 people use the city-owned shelters are provided services to the homeless and impoverish residents via the DC Archidoses' non-profit, Catholic Charities. So the Archidoses wants to strong arm the city into getting in line or they will walk. However, the DC officials pointed that the church is the primary provider of anything in particular, so they will adjust.
The sponsor of the ordinance, DC Council at-large reprep, David Catania, said he would rather end the relationship with the Church regardless of the fact that he has been one of their biggest supporters. Another council member like for Ward 3 said it was "somewhat childish". The chair of the committee that passed Tuesday's vote, Phil Mendelson (D-At Large), said they wouldn't legislate based on threats.
I say let the bastards go since they want to play chicken with the DC Council. They want to hold the impoverish and homeless hostage over something that actually helps the city gain better reputation beyond being the nation's capital, but as an inclusive place to reside. Does it matter at this point since the ordinance is good as done, but you never know...
However, the million-dollar question is how will cities the likes of Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Orlando, Raleigh, Nashville, and the rest of the Southern "progressive" bunch handle this when it comes up? This is going to show the true make or break of these cities and their progressiveness in my eyes since they always try to shit on Birmingham by saying we are ass-backwards.

"If the city requires this, we can't do it. The city is saying in order to provide social services, you need to be secular. For us, that's really a problem."
